Plastic foil, film, blister and laminates production – the challenges.
Production and converting of plastic film, foil, laminates and blister material attracts lots of dust and loose particles. This is due to the sensitiveness of synthetic substrates to static charging. This effect intensifies the faster the web is moving during production, converting and rewinding.
Contamination in film and foil production leads to problems. Not only in the finished product, where it causes product rejects or difficulties processing the product further. There are also multiple problems while printing, moulding or laminating, which gets complicated when substrates aren’t free of dust and loose particles.
During the manufacturing process itself, contaminations need to be removed to avoid maintenance costs, production stops, and to provide safe and healthy working conditions.
Another issue is FDA demands, which require materials for food and pharmaceutical packaging to meet high standards of safety and hygiene.
Web cleaning and static elimination on plastic foil – the answer
Due to the sensitivity of plastic foil and film webs to static charging, contact cleaning with rotary or linear moving brushes is useless, since the scarcest contact generates loads of static charge. This causes additional problems, as a heavily charged web attracts everything it can collect from its environment.
The Weducon solution with optimal positioned 24 V DC ionizers – in the center of the cleaner – and electronically adjustable airflow, offers the power where it is needed.
The system enables an almost linear adjustment of airflow and a powerful cloud of ions blown directly on the surface of the web. Specific measurements of the filter/fan system provide additional advantages. The optional PTFE coating and a considerable distance between the filter plates make cleaning easier and prevent nesting. Moreover, the reduced vertical speed in the filter-housing separates even the lightest debris.
